Being true to yourself

We live in an increasingly stressful time with all kinds of trends and influencers dictating how we ought to be and act. Even the way we look, dress and behave aren’t our own choices anymore. I despair each time I read an article or post about the latest fashions, makeup and hair styles. To me, everyone looks the same, identical clothes, almost like a uniform whether work or leisure.

WHY is everyone following the latest trends and avid fans of people who for some reason take it upon themselves to dictate how we ought to be and look? I’m increasingly fed up with the so called gurus of everything from diets to fashions and especially the ones who claim their ideas and expertise are what matter most.

What’s happened to being Our Own Person, with our own Unique style, ideas and views? In 2020 it seems to me, so many are ruled by what others deem acceptable and unacceptable. No wonder, depression and low self esteem are on the increase, since so many people rely on others opinions to live a life that’s not their own.

My beloved late Mother from an early age instilled in me the importance of being my OWN person, not relying on other people’s views but instead making my own choices and decisions based on MY needs and tastes, while also taking inspiration and advice from others. Her ageless style and impeccable tastes inspire me in my own choices every day.

We live in a transient world with so much going on around us the need to express ourselves as we wish is fundamental to physical and emotional health. So next time you happen to come across another article and post about some miraculous new piece of advice and more of the same aimed to make you happier and more fulfilled, take some time and think:

Will this benefit me or the person, influencer and C celebrity who gets paid for their recommendations?

The best things in life are what matter to YOU, YOUR choices and signature style, dress sense and views make life so much more interesting.

The best things in life are free, like taking a walk, enjoying time to ourselves and with the special people in our lives. Make the most of Your life.

It’s the only one we have.

Much love,

Hélene 💕
